Short Music Video Evaluation

TOKYO POLICE CLUB - BAMBI

GENRE

Tokyo Police Club are an Indie/Math Rock band. In the video we can see that itconsists of meat shots of each band member. This is not the only video Tokyo Police Club have done this in, they also took the same route for the song video of In a Cave. We can also see that editing and lighting are key for this video, cuts are used to beat match with the drums, guitars and keyboard. Most Indie artists have them performing in the majority of their videos.

NARRATIVE
The video itself has no real narrative. I would say the video was created to promote their latest album Champ, hence why at the beginning of the video we see the words CHAMP. The video also promotes Tokyo Police Club and almost feels like you're watching them live. The only real relation in the video is as he says the word Bambi (the song title) we see a picture of a deer, this relates to the Disney character Bambi.

AUDIENCE
The audience for this band and the music video would be of the younger generation, from 14-25, as the video acts towards the band playing live and these are the average group that attend concerts. The gender of which would be both as male bands fan base is normally female based, this is why the band would place a lot of shots of themselves in. However to even it out they added close ups of hands and guitars so its not all just shots of the males faces. The lighting and editing make you feel as if you're at a concert as it's fast paced as if you're getting a rush from seeing your favourite band.

REPRESENTATION
I think the fact the bands costume is just basic clothes adds a real sense of normality to them. It represents the band as down to earth and casual as opposed to the famous diva pop stars. I also feel that the lighting effects and editing are very fast, this could represent the rush you get when you go see one of your favourite artists live.

We Used To Vacation - Cold War Kids

GENRECold War Kids are an Indie lo-fi band. In this video we can see them practising and performing. We see lots of meat shots which is typical for any performers music videos. The band performing is typical for the genre of music.
NARRATIVE
This video shows us the band rehearsing and performing, a kind of 'a day in the life of...' video. This attracts an audience as it shows them what the band gets up to. It could also attract bands themselves, specially unsigned bands as it shows they're just normal people and don't have a high life of a multi million pound record label. The camera work on this video makes it feel sketchy, which goes well with the song, the fast pace editing also adds to this effect.

REPRESENTATION
I think the fact the bands costume is just basic clothes adds a real sense of normality to them as well as how you can see them doing basic normal things. It represents the band as down to earth and casual as opposed to the famous diva pop stars. The way the video is made makes it look like the band are just knocking a song together, and this feeling goes with the song as it sounds rough and raw. The editing is quite fast and the camera is mainly free hand so it gives it the same feeling.

Bombay Bicycle Club Shuffle

GENRE
Bombay Bicycle Club are an English Indie Rock and Folk band. In the video we can see that it consists of few meat shots of the band members playing their instruments, the majority of shots in this video are of the band members doing everyday things using a variety of close ups, long shots and medium close ups. The attire of the band members also gives us a clue to the genre of their music.

NARRATIVE
The narrative of the video is shown to be the journey of the bands success, showing them playing gigs, backstage of gigs, doing signings and at parties. The narrative of the video also gives the audience an insight of what the band members are like and showing them being just regular boys eating pizza and catching the bus.

AUDIENCE
The audience for this band and the music video would be of the younger generation, from 14-25 perhaps, as the video acts towards the band playing live and these are the average group that attend concerts. The gender of which would be both as male bands fan base is normally female based, but i would argue that in this particular video it would appeal to both the male and female audience due to the every day shots.

REPRESENTATION
I think the fact the bands attire is just basic clothes adds a real sense of normality to them. It represents the band as down to earth and casual as opposed to the famous diva pop stars. The use of props such as pizza and alcohol and other food also shows the bands casual attitude. The location of a lot of the shots are also in normal places such as pubs, gigs, restaurants, parties rather than in a limousine or at a sandy beach that big R&B stars would be typical
ly seen in a music video.

Opie Evaluation

I cut around my hair using the Magnetic Lasso tool,
I then took a sample of my hair colour and filled the lassoed area with this colour
I then did the same procedure for my face, arms, neck and tee shirt.
Each time I created a new layer so each layer could be easily hidden.

I then drew around my facial features using the brush tool at the finest point for certain areas.
I then created my lips by doing the same and sampling the actual colour of my lips.

I attempted to cut out my pupils from the original photo and filling them black.

To complete this image I used a blue background,
I did this with the fill bucket on a bottom layer which could be easily hidden if I wanted to edit my opie
This project helped me understand how to use layers and correctly use the lasso tool.
This will be very useful for my future project.
